No news is…no news!

After a VERY busy December (as I know most everyone experienced) we are having a quiet January. We’ve made a few home improvements and are getting ready for a much bigger project tomorrow. The shed has arrived and we are going to be building that in the backyard tomorrow. We are looking forward to a little extra space in the garage once some things find a new home in the shed.
Steve and Molly have plotted out their raised bed garden and planted their seeds.  Every morning and afternoon Molly checks on her seeds and is very excited that several have already sprouted after only 4 days. We are very much looking forward to fresh veggies in a few months.  I think they are planting peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, green beans, strawberries, and some cut flowers.   Hopefully we’ll have some project pictures to post soon.
On another note we are looking forward to our February trip to Chicago.  Steve’s cousin, David, is getting married on Valentine’s Day.  It will great to see extended family.  Some we haven’t seen in about 6 years!   The only thing I’m not so sure about is the weather,  I’m praying for a heat wave!!

We had a wonderful Christmas this year complete with a trip to Florida.  It had been several years so we made the journey and had a great time with friends and family.  The album above highlights all of our Christmas fun.  Enjoy & Happy 2009!
       


Snowing in Cypress

The discussions began yesterday among my first graders about the possibility of snow in Houston. I was the total nay-sayer and said, “It is possible, but not likely.” Boy was I wrong! The day started with Molly praying for snow and wearing her “Let it Snow” shirt. Before I picked my students up from large group today I went outside and there was sleet. About 15 minutes later I heard a rumor about it actually snowing. I couldn’t believe it so I had to sneak down the hall and look out the door for myself. Sure enough, big, beautiful flakes were coming down. When I just couldn’t stand it anymore I lined them up and took them to look at the windows. So many of them had never seen snow before. It stopped by the time Molly and I left school without so much as a snowflake landing on her tongue. She and I went to dinner and again she prayed for more snow and when we left…it was snowing! She’s thinking at this point, she’s got the direct line to God!! She and I went home and after we finished making some Christmas caramels we looked out and it was snowing and blowing again! So of course we had to get bundled up (in our PJs!) and went out to play and take some pictures. Meg took a great video in car on the way home with her camera, but I can’t seem to get it uploaded.  :0(  For my blogger friends I get a red message that says it doesn’t meet “security” requirements?!  Any ideas??? In the gallery below are pictures of our afternoon “accumuluation”, Molly in her shirt feeling all proud of herself, and some pictures I took tonight. You may have to click on the pictures to enlarge them so you can appreciate the “severity” of your snow storm!! :0)

A beautiful day for a walk

I’m a couple weeks behind but, better late than never!!  November 8th was a beautiful day for a walk!  We started our day by donning our new walk shirts (thanks Buffalo Specialties!).
Then we enjoyed a team breakfast in our fully decorated tent (thanks JDRF!).
Next it was time to walk.  We were very excited to have many family friends and some of Megan’s friends from school join us so early on a Saturday morning.  We were also blessed to have our friends the Thewes family drive over from Austin.  Shortly after the walk began Molly had a little accident.  As she was running she did not see the metal guide wires holding a young tree in place and “clotheslined” herself in the neck.  She got the wind knocked out of her and a pretty tender spot on her neck but all in all she was OK.  She went back to the tent with Karen (Thewes) and the paramedics checked her out.  She was fine but her neck was sore for about a week.  After that, we got underway and walked the 5K course.  The highlight for the teens is posing with all the statues (see pictures).  We found Megg’s Junior Ambassador sign and headed to the finish line.  Despite the current economic crunch for so many families and businesses, Megan’s H.O.P.E. was able to raise over $4600 towards finding a cure!  We couldn’t be more thankful for all of our walkers and donors.  We can’t say it enough, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!












       


October – the month in review

October highlights include:  The family working the pumpkin patch at church, Molly enjoyed being the cashier (with supervision of course).  Megan’s 2 year anniversary of her D diagnosis.  The day included Mom and Meg taking the day off school, breakfast at Chick-Fil-A (we carried in our Starbucks), shopping at Memorial City Mall, lunch with Mom and Dad at California Pizza Kitchen, high school football game with Cole and his family.  Pumpkin carving at home, the girls did MOST of the work and really worked together and helped each other with their pumpkins.  Halloween on the new street.  Good fun with new neighbors and a “hayride” but didn’t even give out an entire bag of candy and missed our old friends from Maple Meadows!  See the gallery of pics below…
